Coach Cory's story begins in the wilds of British Columbia, Canada, in a tattered tent by a remote lake, and later, a log cabin high in the Rocky Mountains. Growing up amid poverty and isolation, he faced challenges that shaped his relentless curiosity about life, love, brokenness, and human connection. “I escaped the pain of my circumstances through exploration,” Cory shared in a 2023 interview. As a boy, he roamed mountain slopes with a walking stick, a book, and his loyal dog, finding solace in the pages that whisked him to distant worlds.

Even as a kid, Cory longed to investigate the "deep stuff." At eleven, he dove into Plato’s Laws, Aristotle’s Ethics, and Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations. Thoreau’s Where I Lived, and What I Lived For hit home, mirroring his own search for meaning. By his teens, he was unpacking Freud, Burke, Plutarch, and C.S. Lewis—driven by a burning need to understand why people act, feel, and connect the way they do. “I’ve always chased the deeper ‘why’ lurking beneath the surface,” he says, a quest that started young and never let up.
